On Tuesday, November 11, Clarkson Public School held their annual Veteran's Day program. Each Veteran’s Day, students in grades K-12 show their support for the veterans by performing patriotic songs and presenting patriotic essays.

At the start of the program two Veterans brought in the flags, and the gym recited The Pledge of Allegiance. Then the high school and the junior high band played “The Star Spangled Banner” while everyone proudly put their right hand over their heart. Then the high school band played “Washington Post.”

Principal Mr. Rich Lemberg announced the winners of The Patriot’s Pen and The Voice of Democracy essay contests. The 7th through 8th graders participated in The Patriot’s Pen essay contest.   Their topic was “Why I appreciate America's veterans”. Grades 9 through 12 participated in The Voice of Democracy. Their topic was “Why veterans are important to our past and our future.” The winners of the Patriot’s Pen are as follows: Libby Crecco - 3rd; Brittany Urbanek - 2nd; Abigail Langdon 1st. For the Voice of Democracy the winners were as follows:  Kaitlyn Dlouhy - 3rd; Jenna Podany - 2nd; Jonathan Langdon - 1st.  Pastor Adam Onken from Leigh also spoke about how important veterans are to our county.

Grades K-2 raised their voices and sang out  “When the Flag Goes By” for all they could.  Then the 3rd-6th grades went to the risers and sang out “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, “Fifty Nifty”, and “America”.   The junior high choir performed “America the Beautiful”, followed by the high school choir’s “Thank You Soldiers.”

People that deserve a thank you are of course the soldiers and veterans that have served this country in thick and thin; Pastor Adam Onken for his beautiful speech on veterans; Amy Gurnsey for the wonderful job on the piano; and Ms. Wrenholt for an awesome job for getting all the students ready to perform beautifully.
