The Election that fell short

On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Clarkson one act cast and crew loaded the bus to go to Humphrey to show the rest of the district what they had in them. Sadly, it didn’t turn out the way Coach Troy Mach planned.

When the bus arrived at Humphrey St. Francis, everyone was determined to win. As the students unloaded the set from the bus into the gym, some of the younger actors got nervous. Most of the students chilled in a classroom until it was their turn to perform. The rest of the students watched the competition’s plays.

When 1:00 rolled along, Clarkson put their set together and performed better than any other time before. The play was called The Election written by Don Zolidis. The Election is about two students running for student body president. The first candidate is Mark Davenport - played by Christopher Konicek. Mark is kind of a cocky student that thinks he is just going to win this election because he has good ideas and because he is awesome. The second candidate is Christy Markin - played by Emily Schnelle. Christy is a shy girl who doesn't have many friends, but thinks that she can make the school a better place by serving organic vegetarian food and getting rid of football. Other main characters were Tony Mach as Carl and Jenna Podany as Kiley. Brendan Cropp, who usually plays Gary McMasters, became ill the night before districts, so Tanner Stanley learned all of his lines and performed in Brendan’s place.

After the students finished clearing off the stage, the cast went into a room to hear the judges’ comments. After all the plays were performed, all of the schools went back into the gym for awards. Each team received Outstanding Actor Awards. Clarkson’s Outstanding Actors were Christopher Konicek, Emily Schnelle, and Tony Mach. Overall, The Election unfortunately placed seventh out of eight schools.
