Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen Winners

                  Schuyler VFW Post and the Women’s Auxiliary sponsored the 2016 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Contests for students in the Clarkson, Leigh and Schuyler schools.

                  The Voice of Democracy contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12 and consists of a three to five minute essay that is judged on content, delivery and originality. This year’s theme was “My Responsibility to America”.

                  Winners from Clarkson were Cassie Harper, Abigail Langdon and Libby Crecco. Because of the high level of participation, all three were able to advance to the District level in competition. Abigail Langdon earned third place in the District Competition.

                  The Patriot’s Pen contest is open to students in grades 6 through 8 and consists of a 300 -400 word essay on a chosen topic. The essay is judged on knowledge, theme development and clarity. This year’s theme was “The America I Believe In”.

                  Winners from Clarkson were Mitchel Beeson and Bethany Rupprecht. Also recognized for her essay was Lyric Vance. Because of the number of participants Mitchel and Bethany were advanced to the district level of competition.
