In The Patriot Spotlight: Jennifer Kappel

Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight."  This week's Patriot is Mrs. Jennifer Kappel. Mrs. Kappel has two children that attend CPS: Sawyer who is a sophomore, and Ella who is a seventh grader.

Mrs. Kappel is the guidance counselor at CPS. When talking with Mrs. Kappel, it is obvious that she loves working at school with all the students and staff members. Mrs. Kappel knew at a very young age that she wanted to teach when she grew up. She had a lot of experience teaching when she was younger, and she always had a wonderful time doing it. Mrs. Kappel attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and later Wayne State College. She is also very good at her job; her 16 years of experience does show.

Mrs. Kappel’s overall favorite class to teach is Junior High Health. The best thing about school to Mrs. Kappel is the unpredictability of working with youth, but her favorite thing about teaching is developing relationships with her students. Something that is very special about CPS, in Mrs. Kappel’s opinion, is that we have amazing students.  Mrs. Kappel is the sponsor of Clarkson’s National Honor Society. She really enjoys doing this because it’s very rewarding to see the students find their strengths in high school and use their strengths to pursue career path. She always loves hearing about Clarkson graduates succeeding!

Outside of school Mrs. Kappel’s favorite things to do are sewing and gardening. The thing Mrs. Kappel misses most about summer is gardening. Her favorite movie is The Goonies, and her favorite book is Where the Red Fern Grows. Mrs. Kappel’s favorite sports team to watch is the Nebraska Huskers, but her favorite sport to watch is swimming. Her favorite restaurant is El Mezcal, and her favorite place to shop is Hobby Lobby.
