In The Patriot Spotlight: Margaret Alt

Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight."  This week's Patriot is Mrs. Margaret Alt.

Mrs. Alt is the librarian at Clarkson Public Schools. She and her husband, Rich who is retired, have two daughters. Both work in Nebraska.  One is a speech-language pathologist and the other daughter is a 5th grader teacher.

Mrs. Alt has always wanted to be a librarian. She has always loved to read even when she was a child, but in the state of Nebraska they didn’t offer the education at a college level to be one, or first you had to have a teaching degree to take the needed classes. So, she first had to get her teaching degree at Northeastern College. After that, she attended UNO and UNK to finally take classes to become a librarian. Since then she has been teaching and been a librarian for 23 years.

Mrs. Alt has taught every age level, from kindergarten to 6th grade, and she still has no favorites; she really loves teaching all age levels. That is also her favorite part of her day too - just being around the students and helping them out makes her day. Mrs. Alt’s favorite part about being a librarian is seeing student’s lightbulbs go off and knowing that she made a difference in their life. Mrs. Alt is always looking to have the right books for students; she will always get you any book you want no matter what! In Mrs. Alt’s eyes, the best part about being a Patriot that is we are one great big group, and that we are all a Patriot together as one.

Believe it or not, outside of school one of  Mrs. Alt’s favorite things to do is read!  She has always loved to read even since she was a child. Her favorite book to read is Pete the Cat, while her favorite book series is Magic Tree House series. Mrs. Alt’s favorite color is green because she is Irish. If she could go anywhere on a vacation Mrs. Alt would go to New Orleans because of the all the scenic views downtown that there to see. She loves to watch basketball games and track meets, even though she doesn’t know too much about each sport. At school, the best lunch to Mrs. Alt is chicken fajitas. One of her favorite places to eat out when she isn’t at school is Texas Roadhouse in Omaha because that’s where she always eats out with her daughters and their families. The thing Mrs. Alt misses most about summer is working outside in her garden.
