In the Patriot Spotlight: Ryan Dusso
Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight." This week's Patriot is Mr. Ryan Dusso.
Before Mr. Dusso was a teacher, he was involved in The Young Americans for six straight years. Then he went to Midland University for three and half years to earn his teaching degree. He grew up in a family of teachers, so that is a big part of why he wanted to be a teacher.
At CPS Mr. Dusso teaches K-12 music. One of his main goals this year is for the choir to get a superior rating at District Music Concert. He also coaches speech and one act. Mr. Dusso likes them both equally, but they both also have their own unique challenges. He loves to coach those activities because they both include striving for one main goal. One act is one big team working together, but the speech team has everyone individually working towards the same goal. His favorite part of being a Patriot is working with so many kids and showing different types of music to people. To Mr. Dusso the best part about school is getting to see all of the students and staff in the hallways.
He wants to share music with other and share them how powerful it can be. His favorite part of teaching is watching the growth of a student from the beginning of the year to the end. Mr. Dusso has been teaching for three years, all at Clarkson Public Schools. His favorite class to teach is the junior high choir. They are by far the most challenging group, but they are also the most rewarding group. In his opinion this year has been the best so far with the junior high choir since they have grown so much as an entire group.
In ten years Mr. Dusso sees himself still teaching and helping kids learn music and become better performers. His favorite TV show is Survivor and his favorite movie is Small Soldiers. Mr. Dusso’s favorite NFL team is the Packers, which is also why his favorite sport is football. The thing that he misses most about summer is family barbecues. During his free time, Mr. Dusso sings for weddings or other events, and does play-by-play announcing for the Independent Wrestling Company in Omaha.
