In The Patriot Spotlight: Matt Murren

Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight."  This week's Patriot is Mr. Matt Murren.

Mr. Murren is the business teacher at Clarkson Public Schools. Mr. Murren went to UNL for his business degree and then Doane for his teaching degree. He wanted to become a teacher because he likes working with the youth and because no day is ever the same. Mr. Murren has been teaching for six years, and all six years have been at CPS.

In Mr. Murren’s opinion, the best part about teaching is building relationships with students and other teachers. His favorite class to teach is Personal Finance. Mr. Murren is looking forward to continuous growth as an educator. His favorite part about being a Patriot is seeing all of the students and also having a fun school environment. He really does love his job, and he is always excited to come to school.

Also at school, Mr. Murren coaches year-round. In the fall he coaches high school football. In the winter he coaches junior high and high school girls’ basketball. In the spring he coaches junior high track. Out of all these, his favorite sport to coach is basketball. Mr. Murren’s favorite team is Notre Dame. Besides basketball his favorite sport is golf. Believe it or not, Mr. Murren has actually hit a hole-in-one in North Bend on hole number 2.

In his free time, Mr. Murren likes to play golf and watch sports. His favorite TV show is Chicago PD, while he favorite movie is Dumb & Dumber. If Mr. Murren could have one superpower, it would be to make people smile by a wave of his hand or a kick of his big foot. In ten years Mr. Murren sees himself married, maybe with some children, and in a bigger house still in Clarkson. Mr. Murren’s biggest fears are snakes and spiders. If he could go on a vacation anywhere, He would go somewhere warm to golf. His favorite board game is chess and his dream car is a 1984 Oldsmobile Toronado.
