Clarkson Students Observe Red Ribbon Week

Clarkson’s National Honor Society organized several activities during the week of January 20th in observance of Red Ribbon Week.  Although Red Ribbon Week is traditionally observed in October, NHS uses the month of January to break up this time of year with fun, drug-free messages and activities.

Elementary students wore ribbons during the week and were rewarded with prizes if their name was drawn and they still had their ribbon on. NHS members visited their classes and performed several anti-drug, positive health skits, especially focusing on refusal skills and peer pressure situations.

7th-12th graders participated in a Dodge Drugs dodge ball tournament. Prior to each match, teams had the opportunity to answer drug related trivia for “return to play” advantages. Following the tournament, Schuyler Police Department visited with their K-9 Dog Oden and shared a presentation and question/answer session. All student body assembled outdoors to watch a criminal take-down simulation with one of the officers in a body suit. We thank Schuyler Police Department for sharing Oden with us!

Due to poor weather, a guest speaker, DeMoine Adams, had to be rescheduled. DeMoine will be presenting to the Knd-12th grade about applying yourself and giving your best effort in life.

Thank you NHS members for organizing a great week!
