In The Patriot Spotlight: Bryan Becker

Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight." This week’s Patriot is Mr. Bryan Becker.   He has been with Mrs. Susan Becker for 34 years. His parents are Charles and Judy Becker. His kids are Brigham, who is 30, Alyssa, who is 25, Kaylee, who is 22, and Colby, who is 19. He also has three grandchildren: Myles, who is 2, Aleigha, who is 4 months, and Camden, who is 3 months.

In high school his favorite subject was math because it was always easy and made sense for him. He played football and basketball because he’s always liked those sports.  Mr. Becker attended Garden City Community College for two years. He also attended Emporia State University for two and a half years to eventually become the middle school math teacher at Clarkson Public Schools.

Mr. Becker is an assistant coach for high school football, the junior varsity coach for girls’ basketball, and a junior high track coach. Out of all of these sports, his favorite one to coach is football because he always liked football more. His favorite sport to watch is baseball because he’s always like the way it’s played. He never played baseball in high school, but he did play it in the summer and liked it.

The one word Mr. Becker chose to describe himself would be “patient,” mostly because he tries to be as patient as possible; sometimes it doesn’t always work but at least he tries! If he had to choose one meal to eat a day, he would have to choose steak because he likes it a lot. His least favorite food would have to be peanut butter.  He doesn’t really know why, but he thinks he ate it too much growing up.

Mr. Becker’s favorite part about his job is the interaction with the students on a day to day basis. His least favorite part is dealing with make-up work. He doesn’t like it because when kids are gone, they have to make time to come in and ask questions that were asked in class, and then it’s harder for them to learn it.  It’s like he is teaching it twice.

Mr. Becker’s favorite thing to do in the summer is work, because he always has to find something to do. His least favorite thing to do this past summer was painting because it was really boring doing it for a whole week.

Mr. Becker’s inspiration Jesus Christ because he died for him. If he wasn’t a teacher today, he would be a gospel preacher because he has preached before and loved it.
