In the Patriot Spotlight: Wes Pokorny

Each week a Clarkson High School student or Clarkson Public Schools staff member will be randomly selected to be "In the Patriot Spotlight."  This week's Patriot is Wes Pokorny. Wes’s parents are Harry and Susie Pokorny. He has been married to Melissa for 17 years. He has a son Darrin, 16, and a daughter Riley, 15. Darrin is a sophomore and Riley is a freshman at Howells Dodge Consolidated.

Wes has been a Kindergarten teacher at Clarkson Public Schools for 23 years. He knew he wanted to become a teacher because he looked up to some of his high school teachers and he also enjoyed helping people. His favorite part of teaching is building relationships because it is the most important part of education - students will remember relationships more than a worksheet. His least favorite part of his job is meetings because they have them all of the time. If Wes wasn’t a teacher he would probably be working in landscaping or construction. He likes to work with his hands, and he loves being outside. He likes to see a project from the beginning to the end.

Mr. P’s favorite lunch is oriental chicken because it is good and he doesn’t have to cook it or clean it up.

He has a family tradition of taking the goofiest family photo in all of Nebraska. His sister was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an awkward family photo, which will be going into a calendar for the most awkward family photo!
