Clarkson Speech Team Finishes 6th at State

On Friday March 22, 2019, the Clarkson speech team set out to make this state trip different than previous years. This year the team brought four events to Kearney, and all four qualified for finals and medaled. The four events that qualified for the state tournament were Libby Crecco in serious prose, Halee Steffensmeier in informative speaking, Paige Moore in persuasive speaking, and Libby Crecco, Halee Steffensmeier, Paige Moore, Mitchel Beeson, and Sawyer Kappel in OID.
The day started out with an early morning. The team arrived at the UNK gym at 8 AM, with the first round beginning at 9:30 AM. All of Clarkson’s events performed at the same time. The second round of preliminaries started at 12:30 AM. After the second round was over, the team waited patiently to see if they would make finals.
Awards began at 6 PM. Libby Crecco finished 3rd in serious prose. Halee Steffensmeier finished 7th in informative speaking. Paige Moore finished 3rd in persuasive speaking. The OID team finished 6th. The team earned a combined scored of 42 points, ranking them 6th overall as a team out of 40 teams.
