Homecoming Week 2013
Homecoming Week
by Emily Schnelle
This week Clarkson celebrated homecoming. Throughout the week were spirit days where students dressed up to coordinate with the theme. Many students participated in spirit week to show their school pride.
To kick off the week, students were asked to dress up as a twin with another person. Tuesday was “Class Unity Day” and students dressed the same colors as their classmates. Wednesday students showed off all the camouflage shirts, hats, and pants they owned. “Super Hero Day” was on Thursday. The last day of the week was “American Spirit Day” and students throughout the whole school wore red, white, and blue to support the Patriots.
What would homecoming be without a pep rally to get everyone’s spirits up? Thursday during 7th and 8th periods, staff and students gathered in the gym to participate in class competitions and other activities. All games were played by students in 7th grade through 12th grade. The first game was a version of Family Feud. Five students from each class were picked to answer trivial questions to gain points for their class. Next, four staff members and four students were selected to compete in a cake-eating contest. The students won that contest winning each of them a box of candy. Afterwards various games were played consisting of baby food, sleeping bags, and apple juice.
To end the pep rally each class had to make a live music video. The 7-9th grades had the song “Best Song Ever” by One Direction, and the 10-12th grades had a popular new song called “The Fox” by YLVIS. The classes were allowed time to plan the music video and practice it. Then each class came up to perform their dance to the school. Freshmen won their division and the seniors won theirs.
Friday night was the Patriots’ homecoming football game. The Patriots played Shelby-Rising City and won with a score of 62-36. Games were also provided for elementary children to play throughout the night. Clarkson’s homecoming king and queen was announced after the game. Jadine Weise and Nick Urbanek won king and queen. Other nominees were Abbey Hamernik, Elizabeth Janousek, Erika Rupprecht, Jesse Gall, Kaleb Papousek, and John Steffensmeier.
The homecoming dance was held Saturday at 7:30 pm in Clarkson. After pictures the dance began and lasted until midnight. Alumni Anthony Papousek and Davis Podany were the DJ’s for the dance. This year only high school students from Leigh and Clarkson were allowed to attend the dance. The dance was sponsored by Mr. Rich Lemburg and Mrs. Jennifer Kappel.
